Tolkien's home for sale

20 Northmoor Road, the home in Oxford, UK where Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and most of The Lord of the Rings, is up for sale.

JRR Tolkien, his wife Edith and their children moved in there in 1926

(according to the Tolkien Family Album - the blue plaque on the house says 1930. We don't know why the discrepancy!) and lived there comfortably for 17 years. The house is unlikely to be a template for Bag End or any other hobbit home (no round doors or windows, and definitely not underground), but it would have been a good example of the type of comfortable, unassuming middle class home of that time, and was the setting for many years of childhood and family life for the Tolkiens.

Sources estimate that it might sell for around 짙1.5 million (approx US.5 million). Oxford is an expensive area by UK standards.

If you, or anyone else that you know is interested in joining the New York Tolkien Society, email me at marley5700@yahoo.com . Heren Istarion (NYTS) currently has members aged 8 to 80. Christopher Lee, Sir Ian McKellen, Peter Jackson, and Viggo Mortensen are currently life time members. I would highly recommend any Tolkien Enthusiest to join.
